Penalty Services offers an Independent Appeals Service. Because Penalty Fares are the reverse of the standard “Innocent until proven guilty” justice system, a way of making appeals against penalty notices must be available to people that have received notices. All appeals are assessed using a code of practice approved by the Department for Transport and anyone wishing to appeal must do so within 21 days of receiving a Penalty Fare Notice and must include all relevant information needed for assessing their appeal.
